The rain wasnβt falling, but it shouldβve been. It was that kind of night. The kind where questions come at you fast and answers come slow. Iβve been running trivia in this town long enough to know when something special walks through the door.
AARDVARKS had that look – the kind of sharp-eyed focus that separates the winners from the saps. They played it cool, never broke a sweat, and walked away with 32 points. In this business, thatβs what we call a clean job.
QUIZZLY BEARS came close. Real close. They had the moxie, the brains, the whole package. But in this game, close only gets you points, a silver medal, and a front row seat to the winners walking away with a trophy. Still, they played it honest, and that counts for something in my book. They finished with 31 points.
Then thereβs BANNED FOR LIFE FROM LAKE ONTARIO. Third place with 30 points. Maybe they didnβt crack the case wide open, but they showed up, gave it their best shot, and didnβt quit when the questions got tougher than prison bread. In this town, thatβs the kind of grit that keeps you in the game.
The rest of the crews? They fought hard, gave it everything they had. Not everyone walks away with the prize, but everyone walks away knowing they took a swing at it. And in the mean streets of trivia night, thatβs all a detective can ask for.
Same time next week. The game never sleeps.
